WHY meditate? Meditation doesn’t need to be 20 minutes of silent sitting thinking of nothing. This misconception of what meditation is, I believe, puts many people off starting. Meditation is excellent for finding clarity, sorting through thoughts, relaxing, controlling anxiety, focusing on the present, manage stress levels, increase creativity and increase our patience (as parents we all need this one!) ☑️🙌🏼 HOW do you meditate? Sit and start practicing! Breath. Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. That is it. The more you practice this the more you will be able to do it. When you start your mind will wonder, don’t berate yourself, you aren’t doing it wrong, let these thoughts occur naturally. When you realise you are no longer focusing on your breathing, start to refocus on your breathe. There is no right or wrong to meditating, it is simply about awareness or non awareness. When you become nonaware of your breath, refocus and bring your awareness back to your breath. Build this practice up slowly over time. 5 minutes of meditation can help decrease stress, anxiety and depression. 10 minutes can help improve concentration. 20 minutes will calm you, help you defragment your thoughts, even make your brain younger and smarter! 😁 There really is so many benefits to taking those precious minutes out of your busy day to close your eyes and just breath.
